NORTHEAST GAUL. Treveri. Late 2nd to mid 1st century BC. 1/4 Stater (Electrum, 13 mm, 1.24 g, 3 h), 'à la tête cornu' type. Celticized male head to right, with goat horn over his ear and stylized goatee. Rev. Human-headed hore leaping to left; below, a 'winged' base. DT 128. Scheers series 17, fig. 133. Very rare. The Treveri inhabited the lower Moselle Valley and its surroundings. Their name later transferred to Augusta Treverorum, a Roman settlement established under Augustus, which would evolve into the principal town of the Treveri civitas and one of the most significant Roman cities north of the Alps.
